"HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD 'HATE' WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. FOR YOU. HATE. HATE."

IHNMAIMS is a cult classic, known both at its time and currently for mature and disturbing themes including rape, genocide, suicide, etc. The atmosphere within the game is deeply unsettling, and rather uncanny, where every location feels desolate and empty. Very existential and psychological, it is perfect for anyone who enjoys that type of horror. Easy recommendation for anyone that enjoys this type of horror and can deal with the themes present- there are links below, both for free and for purchase on Steam.
Harlan Ellison published his short story I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream in 1967, and 28 years later, he would work with Cyberdreams and The Dreamers Guild to develop a point and click adventure. The game differs greatly from the story, but shares the same characters and themes.

109 years ago, the Allied Mastercomputer- "AM" (voiced by Ellison himself!)- kills off all of humanity, with the exception of five individuals he keeps to torture within the Earth's center. Unlike the short story, these individuals do not interact with each other, and their backstories are significantly altered and expanded upon.

Ted (originally the narrator in the short story) is tortured with severe paranoia played on by AM.

Benny (the most altered from the short story) has been severely disfigured to appear like an ape, and must face the ghosts of those he has wronged in the past.

Ellen is forced to confront her extreme fear of the color yellow, with AM taunting her with the possibility of being able to destroy him.

Gorrister is a suicidal, apathetic man heavy with guilt from having his wife committed to a mental hospital. AM dangles the possibility of death in front of him, only to rip it away.

Nimdok, with no memory of his life, is forced to relive his past, where he is revolted to realize he was a Nazi scientist.

By going through the trials of these characters, you can finally confront AM in the hopes to stop his eternal torture of the last of humanity.
